Friends,
I am Dnyaneshwar Shankar Mandrekar (or simply call me Mandrekar),
aged 58, residing in Mumbai, India.

The passion for Stamp Collecting began 40 years ago, when I shifted from Goa to
Mumbai for further studies. A small blank stamp album, received then in prize, attracted
me towards this hobby. Year over years, a careful study of a number of books on
Philately, stamp catalogues and stamp magazines helped me immensely in knowing ‘how
and why certain stamps, varieties and errors of British India era; British India
Classic Stamps in particular, are so popular among philatelists’.
All along, I wandered through a number of philatelic shops, bazaars and stamp auctions
in search of many of the British India Classic Stamps; 1854 India Lithographs in
particular. A month long stay in London provided me an opportunity to visit
some of the world famous Stamp Houses such as SPINK and STANLEY GIBBONS.
Today, after so many years of study, collection and presentation of the philatelic
material on the exhibition sheets seem to have eventually transformed my dream into
the reality. What you will now see is the complete and comprehensive collection of
125 years of India Postage Stamps (1854 – 1979), with special emphasis on
British India Classic Stamps; 1854 India Lithographs in particular. The collection
includes almost all the postage stamps issues, officials, many varieties & errors
besides massive pre-stamp and post-stamp British India Postal Histories through covers
and a wonderful study of British India post-marks in two big volumes. (I
would request you to have a careful look at the postally used 1937 KG VI 1 r. stamp
for an amazing Error of Colour: Deep Green (of 5r.) for the normal grey.
Presumably this stunning error appears to have surfaced/detected for the first time
and may prove to be as interesting as 1854 4anna stamp with "Head Inverted"
error). The collection also includes a special Gandhi Stamps Collection covering
78 countries, including India. And finally, you can view certain World Stamps,
varieties, errors and a few pre-1900 early covers.
So friends, now after 40 years of philatelic endeavour, it gives me immense pleasure
in presenting my humble Stamp Collection through this Website. I am still a small
student of this great hobby and hence, I will welcome all valuable suggestions,
corrections to my mistakes, faults, committed in identifying and describing certain
stamps, covers, dies, post marks etc.
Looking forward to your response.

D. S. MANDREKAR
