An amazing collection of India Postage Stamps for 125 Years (1854 - 1979)
Brief Description of the entire Stamps Collections
The entire Stamp Collection may broadly be divided into seven sections as under:
A.

India Postal History through Pre- Stamp Covers (prior to Oct’ 1854.)

The lot includes Soldiers cover, a Pondicherry cover, bearings & Ship/Overland covers showing a wide range of Postmarks, Cancellations & hand stamps.

   
B. British India Classic Stamps (1852-1876) & further issues (1877-1947)
 
a) 1852 Scinde Dawks.
b) 1854 Lithograph: ½ Anna Blue (all three dies, covers and varieties).
c) 1854 Lithograph: 1 Anna Red (all three dies, covers, varieties and C-D Stones)
  The 1854 One Anna Red Lithograph Stamp section includes two historic varieties viz:
 
i) ‘Lower Coil of Chignon missing on the 49th Stamp’,
Described by L.E.Dawson in his famous book, ‘One Anna & Two Annas Postage Stamps of India 1854-55’ as historic one among all Die-II D Stone One Anna Stamps.
ii) ‘ON of ONE ANNA, strangely Re-touched on Stamp no.7 in the sheet of Die-I A Stone’
The legendary Stamp collector, scholar and author Capt. D.R.Martin has considered this variety as ‘Undoubtably the most interesting one’ in his article, ‘Die-I A Stone, Stamp No.7’ in 1929.
d) 1854 Lithograph: 4 Annas Blue & Red (all cut-square copies & pairs)
  This section includes 1854 india lithograph: 4 Annas Blue and Red with 'inverted head error' on a proof strip of three stamps.
e) 1854 Typograph: 2 Anna Green
f) 1855-76: 1)East India Company/ Crown Colony Stamps (all issues and official stamps including varieties, imperforates and errors)
2) Official Stamps
3) QV Postal Stationary
g) 1877-1900: British India Empire ( Victorian India Stamps)
(all issues, including varieties, imperforates and errors).
h) 1902-47: British India Stamps pertaining to the Rule of three Kings.
(all issues, official stamps, varieties and errors)
 
i) King Edward VII (1902-11)
Includes an Exceptional Error of Double Surcharge Option on a mint Gutter Block of Four of Rs. 25.
ii) King George V (1911-36)
Includes an error of surcharge of 2r on 10r Green & Scarlet
iii) King George VI (1937-47)
Includes a Stunning and Exceptional Error of Colour (Dark Green for Grey), not yet recorded or found anywhere else and can possibly become a ‘Stamp of Fame’
   
C. British India Postal History: Early Handstruck Cancellations (1854-80) On postage stamps of India (Random Photographs)

(The linen-hinged exhibits are housed in two cloth bound albums)
  Volume I: 1854-1873 Cancellations types I-XIII 823 Stamps (including many 1854 Lithograph stamps) and 51 scarce covers on 56 pages.

Volume II: 1873-1880 Cancellations types 17-28 1065 stamps and17 scarce covers on 64 pages
D. British India Postal History (1854-1947) through Covers:

British India Postal History through 50 selected covers, showing a wide range of post marks, cancellations, h.s, and m.s., F.P.O./Censored covers.
Collection includes another lot of over 750 Postcards & Covers (1883-1947) in mixed condition.
E. Independent India Collection of Mint Stamp and First Day covers (1947-79) (Random Photographs)

Mostly in mint blocks of four, over 300 First Day Covers, Varieties & Errors. Official Stamps
F. Mahatma Gandhi Stamps Collection: (Random Photographs)
 
  • Issues of 78 countries, including India, are housed in 7 albums.
  • Includes all four values (of 1948 issue of India) in mint blocks of four each and also commercially used covers of the Issue in three values and four values each.
  • 1948 : 3 ½ anna voilet - Complete sheet of 50 mint stamps.
  • The collection includes 1948 1 ½ annas marginal mint blocks of 22 and 10
  • 1 ½ and 3 ½ annas ‘SERVICE’ stamps, used on pieces.
  • NHM stamps of various Gandhi issues are exhibited alongside pictures of Gandhi stamps on all the 65 pages of commemoratives booklet ‘STAMP OF TRUTH.’
  • Also includes many Varieties and Errors, commemorative folders, besides very scarce postal stationery, issued for the use of Forces.
G. World Stamps, Errors and Postal History: (Random Photographs)

Includes a few important Stamps, Varieties & Errors
The postal history pertains mostly to pre-1900 period, covering Great Britain, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Hong-Kong, Serbia and a few other countries. The scattered collection of a few early world stamps is housed in 7/8 albums.
